Soil requirements.

Good drainage is required. A pH level of 7.0 to 7.5, particularly where club root may be a problem. Over liming can cause temporary 'lock-up' of some nutrients such as manganese and boron. Lime should be applied before planting or drilling.
Chinese cabbages can be grown on a wide range of soil types. Firm soil with a good tilth is required. Needs consistent moisture in soil. Plants must be well watered throughout the growing period to avoid bolting. Spring crops may bolt prematurely if young plants are exposed to frost.
